The short sleeve Mak Shirt is inspired by the west coast camp shirts of the 1960’s and handwoven Japanese plaids from the turn of the last century. The fabric stays true to traditional hand weaving techniques of India and takes 90 days to create. The yarns are dyed to different levels of indigo and then strung on a loom by a master weaver in the Uttar Pradesh region north of Delhi. We’ve played with a combination of the different indigo plaids in our line for pops of fun at the pockets, sleeves, and interior details. The shirts are then cut and sewn by a single tailor with French Seam construction to ensure that this piece will last for generations. The longer its worn the better it gets as the yarns fade individually to create beautiful highs and lows of blues that match so perfectly to the slubby textures of the hand woven fabrics.
