LAKE CAMP SHIRT indigo/madder roving koi print
fabric / millwoven silk/cotton
A print from the archive of Junaid Khatri. Printed in Ajrakhpur, in the Kutch District of India.
Ajrak printing is a unique and complex form of block printing marked by the layering of multiple blocks, and multiple dye baths, to create oftentimes complex multi-colored patterns.
The koi is resist block printed with gum arabica, and the flowers with a mixture of madder root paste and gum arabica. The fabric is then overdyed in a plant indigo vat and heavily washed.
Printed on millwoven silk/cotton - a beautifully refined fabric meant to mirror traditional aloha shirts through natural fibers.
